I've begun crafting a new set of elemental tools for my work as a magician in the Golden Dawn tradition. I made a set a few years ago and consecrated them with a ritual I found in a book by Lon Milo DuQuette (I think it was Homemade Magick but wouldn't swear to that in a court of law). They are a solid set of tools I suppose, and each has a name and a backstory to it (aside from my pentacle, which was a bit of an afterthought). Still, post-consecration I left them strewn about my working space and exposed them to repeated, if sporadic, banishings. At the time I was a Chaos Magician (I am probably still a bit of a chaos magician but I'm doing an extended, years long dive into Golden Dawn magic) and couldn't be bothered to care for my tools properly. Now that I am immersed in Golden Dawn work, I'm creating all new working tools for this phase of my magical life.
I have to admit, in a way I feel MORE magical as I cut steel with my dremel for my blade, or strip bark from my wand and carve runes into it with my handy carving knife, than I do circumambulating the temple chanting and tracing symbols. Bringing something into manifestation has a power to it that I really enjoy. While I'm cutting metal and kicking off sparks, I imagine I feel like Hephaestus felt at his forge, or like the dwarves in Norse myths making tools for the gods.
This probably isn't much of an introduction or first post, but I've had this account for a while and finally decided to write something. I plan on sporadically posting about my adventures as a middle aged apprentice magician and on any other topics that may strike my fancy.
